About San Gimignano

The city of towers: San Gimignano is a small medieval town in Tuscany. With its 14 preserved towers - over 70 of which once stood - it has one of the most unmistakable town silhouettes in Italy.

The city is compact and can be fully explored on foot in just a few hours, making it a popular destination for day trips from Florence or Siena.

To experience the medieval flair without the crowds, you should visit in spring (April/May) or early fall (September/October), as the light is soft, the temperatures are pleasant and the narrow streets are still walkable.

Opening hours & directionsSan Gimignano is located between Florence (approx. 55 km) and Siena (approx. 40 km) and is easily accessible by car or bus. Parking is only possible outside the city walls. Most museums are open daily between 10 am and 5 pm, often until 7 pm in the high season (April-October). The best time for a relaxed visit is April/May and September/October, as the number of visitors is lower and the weather is pleasant.
